Deans of Education Speak Out
The quality and quantity of music education Canadian students receive varies widely. Yet, research tells us that critical and creative thinking skills, media literacy, and the ability to collaborate and live harmoniously in a global village are essential in a rapidly changing world. The arts are highly effective in teaching all of these. Therefore, music and the other arts can and should play an increasingly important role in the education of 21st century learners.
A panel of Deans of Education from Canadian universities will discuss the implications for teacher education. Are Faculties of Education preparing pre-service teachers to teach music effectively? If so, what can we learn about supporting effective practices? If not, what must be done? You will come away with a clearer understanding of the challenges and opportunities that exist and what must be done to ensure that ALL children reap the full benefits of a well-rounded education - one that includes a high quality music education.
Presented by the Canadian Music Educators Association. | www.cmea.ca
